How to Install a ThemeForest Theme on WordPress

Here are some basic rules for installing a theme from ThemeForest.

1) Install a Blank WordPress

Starting with a clean installation is the basis. It is important not to reuse an old installation of WordPress filled with articles, pages, and extensions that can disrupt your installation. I add that installing a new WordPress takes 5 minutes.

If you have opted for a premium theme, you must have downloaded a file from the platform in ZIP format to your computer.

Note: If your ZIP file comes from Themeforest, there is a good chance that it will contain, in addition to the theme, the documentation, the source files, and the sample content. You will have to send to your WordPress only the part containing the theme.

2) Theme Installation and Activation

Unzip the theme folder or upload the theme zip file under Appearance -> Themes. Theoretically, just after activating the theme, you should see a message prompting you to install plugins. Don’t ignore it.

3) Installing and Activating Extensions

Install and then activate each extension. I recommend installing them one by one rather than bundled. Indeed, each installation requires a download from the theme server, which will transmit the information more or less slowly. Some installations will not be successful, so you will have to download and unzip the extensions in the Plugins folder manually.

Another possible confusion: the execution time of PHP scripts configured too short, or the upload too limited in memory. You will then have to adjust certain parameters in your php.ini file :

upload_max_filesize = 64M
max_execution_time = 300

Once all the extensions have been activated, we can move on to adding demo content

4) Importing Demo Content

This is the thing to remember. If you look at your site at this point, it will look not very pleasant compared to what is offered in the catalog. The demo content will allow you to choose your pages and also give you some free images of commercials to enhance your site.

Look for the Import demo content buttons in the Dashboard, then follow the instructions. Be patient, and download in stages when possible for the same reasons I mentioned in installing extensions. Once the content is imported, your site is almost ready, and you will certainly have to choose the pages and recreate the menu.

5) Choice of Pages and Creation of The Menu

In the Pages section, make your choice according to your project. Once the choice is made, put all the pages except those you have chosen in the trash. Rename your pages clearly, remembering to rename the page id for SEO and permalink presentation.

Then go to the Menu section, add your pages in the right order. Check Main Menu or Main depending on the topic.

Finally, go to the Settings -> Reading section to designate the home page and the article page if necessary.

Uninstall and Remove a WordPress Theme

Installing a theme is good, but don’t keep unnecessary themes installed and not in use. To uninstall an unused WordPress theme, you have 2 options:

By FTP, as seen above, you just need to delete the whole unused theme folder from / wp-content / themes /

Via your WordPress administration, go to Appearance >> Themes, by passing the mouse over the image of the theme to delete you will see a button “Theme details”, click, a new window is displayed, at the bottom right of the latter you will find the button “Delete.”

That’s all about installing the ThemeForest theme on WordPress. Of course, it might take time to customize your theme using any Customizer options inbuilt, page builder plugins, or even custom CSS. If you have any queries or if you run into any new issues feel free to leave a comment below.
